Proposition 47 Grant
Proposition 47 was a voter-approved initiative on the November 2014 ballot that reduced from felonies to misdemeanors specified low-level drug and property crimes.In September 2025, the Yolo County Office of Education was awarded $995,095 from the California Board of State and Community Corrections to help reduce recidivism among justice-involved youth and young adults. The initiative will support students enrolled in YCOE court and community schools—Dan Jacobs and Cesar Chavez Community Schools in Woodland —as well as youth on probation, students returning to local districts from detention, and those at risk of justice involvement due to trauma, substance use, or chronic disconnection from school.
The program focuses on three key strategies:
- providing a continuum of wraparound supports such as mentorship, substance use prevention, and assistance with housing, food, transportation, and case management;
- expanding mental and behavioral health services including individual, group, and family counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma-informed care; and
- creating early academic and vocational pathways that build stability and opportunity.
With guidance from a Prop 47 Advisory Committee, YCOE is identifying and implementing evidence-based programs to ensure students receive the support they need to reconnect with school and build positive futures.
