Yolo County Office of Education

The Yolo County Office of Education is proud to honor the expansive language skills of our multilingual students in Yolo County. The Yolo County Bilingualism Award recognizes students who have graduated from Yolo County schools with proficiency in two or more languages.

This local recognition is given in addition to the State Seal of Biliteracy and is intended to offer flexible pathways for demonstrating language proficiency to separate bilingualism from academic achievement.

Students may qualify for the award through assessment scores, grades, or through an alternative process of demonstrating their bilingualism.

Proficiency in English
  • Overall 4 on the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC); or a 2.0 average in a 4-year English–Language Arts course sequence.
  • Alternate Pathway: Verification of oral English proficiency by a teacher or other school staff member and submission of writing sample verifying the student can communicate in written English.

Proficiency in an Additional Language
  • A score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exam; or a score of 600 on SAT II subject test in the target language.
  • Alternate Pathway: Verification of language proficiency by a parent or other family or community member; or Interview in the target language with a staff member who speaks the language.
