about us

The Yolo County Office of Education provides technical assistance and implementation support for Local Education Agencies within Yolo County that hold the California Community Schools Partnership Grant. This approach centers schools as hubs for their communities, strengthening connections among students, families, educators, and community partners. The strategy emphasizes meaningful family and community engagement; integrated systems of support that align school and community resources; expanded and enriched learning opportunities beyond the traditional school day; rigorous, community-connected learning; and a culture of safety and belonging. Four of the five partner school districts, along with César Chávez Community School, currently hold grants to deepen implementation of this work.

*Community Schools Forward Framework from the Learning Policy Institute

The Prevention and Wellness Team facilitates a community of practice that meets twice monthly in an online format, creating space for shared learning, collaboration, and resource exchange among partner districts and César Chávez staff about community schools implementation. Through this community of practice, three focus areas were identified for the current school year: family and community engagement, rigorous andhttps://cadigitalcommons.org/ community-centered learning, and sustainability. Topics include connecting work-based learning, specifically the work of YCOE’s College and Career Readiness Team, to the community schools framework; professional learning opportunities focused on powerful family engagement; and approaches to data collection that center the lived experiences of students and families through story sharing.
