In its initial year of operation, YCOE Head Start adopted Creative Curriculum in order to address all aspects of child development. Through a variety of research, Creative Curriculum has determined that young children learn best by doing. Learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work, and to learn first hand about the world we live in. Creative Curriculum is used in our center-based and home-based preschool programs.

In our preschool programs children learn through ongoing interaction within an enriched environment. The classroom environment includes nine enriched learning areas of art, blocks, drama, science, writing, listening, manipulative, math, and reading.

This enriched curriculum also focuses on four developmental areas - social, emotional, cognitive, and physical.  A wide variety of learning materials ensures that no matter where children choose to play, they are learning. Materials are on low shelves, in containers, and on hooks so children can get them independently. To accomplish developmental goals, our programs organize the environment, plan activities, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and interact in meaningful ways with children.
