Beginning in July of 2008, the methodology of processing payroll will conform to the changes in federal tax laws. To assist school district employees in determining the changes they may experience in their monthly net wages, BMAS has developed a series of Pay Calculators.
The table below has two calculators each for certificated and classified employees. Select the table from your classification based on the months you are contracted to work, not the number of months in which you get paid. All of the calculators assume employees will receive a total of 12 payments during the fiscal year.
Once a calculator is selected, simply add your individual variables, i.e. annual salary, tax rate, voluntary deductions, etc., into the cells that are highlighted yellow in the left column of the calculator spreadsheet. The calculator will then use your variables to calculate net pay using both the current and the new Summer Refund Pay method.
As with any changes to payroll methodology, BMAS suggests that employees consider the information presented in the Pay Calculators to be demonstrative in purpose only. Employees should discuss this change with their tax professionals and determine what, if any, changes need to be made to income withholdings.
Additionally, in an effort to help answer questions regarding the process, we have developed a frequenly asked questions (FAQ) document as well as a talking points document that we hope you will find useful. Both documents are Adobe .pdf documents that can be accessed by clicking on the below links. If you have additional questions, please see your district payroll technican. Thank you.
